Baking in the Weekend

In the weekend my Mum gave me a recipe to bake. It was like a cookie muffin with oreo inside, it was so delicious! I think this is a very easy and fun thing to do during lockdown. Had lots of fun while baking this recipe.This recipe may take a while but it is totally worth it!

I would reccomend an Adult to help you if you are not that confident. if you would like to bake this here is the recipe:

Family Fun Day 2021

Last term, my school had a Family Fun Day. It was very fun but also exhausting. We were in our house groups. There are 4 different house groups, there is Kea, Pukeko, Ruru and Tui. I am in Pukeko, I am also a house captain. On Family Fun Day we got to do different activities. There was a water slid and next to the water slide there was a little pirate bouncy castle. Then there was wheels and then there was another slip n slide but way more bigger. Then you could swim in the school pool. Then there was a inflatable obstacle course. All the house groups did a rotation to do each thing. My House Group went on the water slide first. It was fun and the water slide was big. We were split into two groups. The first  group went on the water slide first and then the other group went on the little pirate bouncy castle. I was in the second group. After that we went on the wheels it was also fun. After that we did some swimming and also the big slip n slide, it was all very fun and I enjoyed it . The last thing we did was the big obstacle course. I loved it  and it was very, very fun.

Slip - n Slide - Swimming

Slip n Slide!

Late last year, we did swimming and also a slip n slide! It was so fun! We had to be in a group of 3 and then the teachers put each group into another big group. There were 2 groups. My group got to swim first and play a lot of fun games and they were all very fun. We also got some free time and that was very fun too. Then my group got to go on the slip and slide. The Slip n Slide was really fast and when you get t the bottom your all covered in soap. That was  Something I loved about the Slip n slide. We also got to go in pairs after our first turn. I went with my friends and was really fun. We were only supposed to be in pairs or we could go by ourselves.

Netball

In Term 1 on a  Wednesday afternoon we did Netball for PE. The people teaching us for Netball was Olivia and Josina. I love playing Netball. We played a few games that were very fun and also we learned different types of passes. Chest pass, Overhead pass and Bounce pass. On our session this week we played mostly games to practice netball skills. My favorite game was a game where we practiced how we position ourselves when we catch the ball. So when Josina said In the river we had to jump over the yellow line then sort of squat down a little bit. Then when she said On the bank we had to jump back, if we moved to the wrong spot   or was stepping on the yellow line or wobbled a bit and shuffled then we were out.

Cultural Games Learning

Yesterday all of the leaders and house captains and two other year 6's got to learn two little Russian games. They were called Wizards and Stream. Both these games were very fun. The person who taught us the game was Russian and grew up playing these two little games, she said that at least every Russian kid knew at least one of these games or both! 

For the wizards game we got split into two groups. In each group there were about 2,3 or 4 wizards. Everybody else were not wizards. The wizards job was to try and touch someone on the shoulder and make them frozen, if the wizards made everyone frozen they won. For the stream game we all had to choose someone and put our hand against the other persons hand ( or just hold their hand). Then we had to go in one line, after we had to put our hand up to make like a little hallway. Then one person runs down the middle and grabs a random person by the arm and run down to the end with that person, then the person that lost there partner had to run down the middle and do the same thing I just explained, It keeps on a and never stops just like a stream.

Writing Work

In school we have been doing some writing work on procedures. Procedures are like instructions on how to play or set up a game and also how to bake with a recipes! I wrote a procedure about a cultural game I learned. It is a Russian Game called Stream. The person that taught us said that at least every Russian kid should know this game. This game is also played in a lot of events. I think I wrote a good procedure but might need to add some things to it. If you would like you could tell me what I could add to my procedure. I also think I might need to add more detail. Before we wrote our procedure on a Google Doc, We did a procedure plan about the game we were doing.

Year 6 Spark Arena Trip

 Spark Arena Trip

Today all of the Year 6's went on a trip to Spark Arena. It was so fun and interesting. There were also other schools there as well. The whole trip was made free by Suzy Cato. The CEO of the Spark Arena was also there to welcome us. We had traveled there by bus. At Spark Arena There were different places where you could have fun, express yourself and more. We had 30 minutes at each place. 

The first place we went to was Happy Place, I was really excited to go in because I had heard of it and had been wanting to go. The first thing we did was jump into a big ball pit a bit taller than me! After we could check out some of the other rooms at Happy Place. My favorite room was the cookie room. The next place we went to was Sounds Fun. Sounds Fun is a place where you can try out trumpets or trombones, try digital keys and more. The first thing I tried out was this thing where you could make different beats. The next thing I tried out was the drums. It is a bit hard to explain what I did on the drums, but it was fun. After that I tried out a trombone, trying that out was fun too. The next place we went to was the Van Gogh Experience/Alive. Me and My friend had gone there in the holidays so we knew what to expect. At the Van Gogh Experience. We got to see some of Vincent Van Gogh's art work. There was also another room. Where there were lots of sunflowers.

After all of that we got a little bag with food inside. Then we went on the bus again to go back to school. Have you ever been to Spark Arena Before or any of the places mentioned in this blog post?.

Under The Wires Day!

Under the Wires

On the 14th of April the whole of the senior syndicate had an Under the Wires day! The reason was because we have been learning about  Anzac Day and what had happened on that day. So the teachers decided to put wires ( they were actually strings of wool) all around the blue space and the green space ( the blue space and the green space are two of the senior classes) so it was like we were in the trenches.

 It was fun but also tiring because we had to crawl on our hands and knees for most of the day. The fun thing about was that there were sound effects of bombs and gunshots while doing our school work. Yes we still had to do school work, we did Maths, Reading and Writing. For Maths we did a little times table and we got to choose from the 3x to the 9x, I chose 4x and it was fun. After we did a basic facts test but it was very hard because there were distractions. The distractions were the sounds of bombs and gunshots and I could not think properly. 

Next we did a maths sheet where we had to count up how many years NZ has been fighting wars and there were two sides on the piece of paper. We got to try and solve equations in different ways and also had to show our working out. Next was brain break. 

After Brain Break we did writing. For writing we pretend wrote a letter to our family's because we were "in war" and something else we did was an acrostic poem. I had enough of crawling on my hands and my knees. 

At least it was morning tea and we finally got to go outside after I got to go swimming (in the rain)  it was fun but I was getting cold so I got out. Then I ran back to the classroom. After a while I went back into the classroom and did reading for reading we did  a picture dictation it was fun and I enjoyed it, after that was lunch and like morning tea we got to go out. But it was very cold. 

After lunch we had to go back into the trenches and eat lunch there. Then the teachers had fake guns with fake bullets and if you put your head up the teachers will aim at you and "shoot you". After we unwind-ed all of the strings and then it was home time.

Lockdown/Earthquake

Last Friday most of you might know that there was an earthquake. It happened in the east coast of the North Island. My teacher was in that area.  There were also Tsunami warnings very early in the morning at 2:00 am. I also learnt how Tsunamis occur that day. Also that day we had a syndicate meet. We all put on something fancy or freaky. Today my classroom did a brainstorm on what to put inside an emergency pack. We thought of putting in a torch, a pack of cards and other essentials. We also thought of putting in an Umbrella, Phone, Charger, Batteries and also a few books and also a blanket or pillow if it gets cold Maybe you could discuss with your families what you would put inside an emergency pack.

Christmas Art

 Christmas Art

Today we did some Christmas art. It was very fun we did some heart weaving and some Christmas trees dot Art. First we did the Christmas trees. We made them by using pins, a Christmas tree with dots and some Card. First we lined the paper with the tree on it with dots and the card and then we poke holes with pin along the dotted line and we had to do it on carpet not hard services. Then we put it up to the window and then the tree sort of lights a up. The next Art activity we did was a little woven heart basket. It is a little hard to explain but it was very fun. We also did some Christmas cards and also used a Christmas collar this one is also a little hard to explain, but was also very fun.

Summer learning Journey Activity Teaser

Today we a did a summer learning journey teaser activity. The summer learning journey is a variety of online activities that helps you with your learning and is something you can do over the holidays. You can also earn points for the activities that you complete. We used a digital Art coloring book and we had to choose a famous picture and  try and  remake it using Google Art. I'm looking forward to participating in the Summer Learning Journey .Can you tell which one is mine and which one is the original?

Lego Workshops

Last week we did a Lego workshop, it was also called The Brick Pit. It was very fun and we got to build a lot of stuff. The theme was on space. We got to build spaceships, landscapes ,planets and more.We had to be in groups of 4. I had my friends in my group. First my group got to build planets, we built Earth and Saturn. Then we got to build landscapes I built some sort of rock wall and it was very fun. Then we got to make stars, that was fun too and a bit hard to make. Then we got to go to other tables and build other stuff I decided to make a little spaceship. The other thing that we got to build was a little tool workshop. Building all the Lego stuff was tons of fun. Hope you enjoyed my blog!

Skateboarding 2020

This term we are starting to do skateboarding! Our first lesson was today and it was very fun. Then we have another session later on .We learnt a lot of new tricks and got to try some. We also played a game called Whats up wolf pack? That game was very fun. We had 2 coaches, their names were Ben and Lawrence. 

One of the tricks we learnt was the crab walk we had to put one foot down on one side and then put the other foot down on the other side and then we had to try to do the crab walk. We also got put into 2 groups. I was in the group that Ben was teaching. We got to learn how to do flips on the skateboard and some other fun stuff. We also learnt parts of the skateboard. The top of the skateboard was the nose and the bottom of the skateboard was called the tail. The group that I was in got to learn really cool tricks. 

I loved playing that game called Whats up wolf pack? Its kind of like Red light Green light but we use skateboards and its called Whats up Wolf pack? It was really fun. I really like doing skateboard sessions at school because its fun and I get to learn something new.

Production - Jasmine and Aladdin

Two weeks ago we had our production! It was really fun and very exciting. Our production was called Jasmine and Aladdin!  It was on the 4th, 5th and 6th of November. We had to do thirteen rehearsals and some we had to do over lockdown. The costumes were a bit comfortable and a bit itchy. Overall the costumes looked nice. We had the production at Waikowhai intermediate Hall. I was a dancer and doing the dance was fun. On Monday  ( in the week of production) the year 5's and 6's, (I am a year 5 so I went and rehearsed) went and rehearsed at Waikowhai Intermediate Hall. On Tuesday the whole school went and rehearsed. On Wednesday we went in the morning (The production was on that day). We had a dress rehearsal and some classes from Waikowhai Intermediate and Hay Park School came to watch. 

Then on the night we did the actual performance. It was very exciting but also everyone was kind of nervous. My Dad came and watched on the first night. Then my family came and watched on Thursday and they thought the production was tiring and AWESOME!. Then on Friday my Mum came and watched the production. I liked that my family came and watched me and my sister do the production. 

After the first performance we did the same performance on Thursday and Friday. The Friday one was in the morning so we had to walk from school down to Waikowhai Intermediate. The Thursday performance was like the Wednesday one.

Wonder project - Rocket challenge

This term and last term we have been doing the WONDER Project (Rocket challenge). In case you don't know what the Wonder Project is it is a challenge where you make rockets out of fizzy drink bottles and you use water or air pressure to launch them. It has been fun doing the wonder project, we do it every Wednesday. On Thursday this week we did our last test flights. Our Ambassadors are Sihang and Melissa. Sihang is the Ambassador for my 2 classrooms that are doing it together (Hauraki and Manakau). Melissa is the Ambassador for another classroom ( Waitemata ). We made the rockets out of 1.5 litre fizzy bottles. We made the fins and the cones out of paper and cardboard. I had 5 people in my group. There were 3 boys and 2 girls. My group went first to do the final test flight, our fins came off when we launched it. We had to record `the water level, air pressure and how far it went. For the water level we did 350 and the air pressure 60. It went 4.8 feet or meters.

Art - Mono print and Tongan tapa

This week we have been doing some mono print and some Tongan tapa art. Doing the Art was very fun. For the mono print art first we had to explore Maori patterns then choose to draw an animal then  once you finished drawing it you have to put patterns into it. Then you use printing ink and roll it onto a board and then you put your drawn animal and put it on the board and then you draw over the lines again and you have to put pressure on it so that when you take it out you can see the lines clearly. Once you've done that you take it off and then your done. You can add pastels if you want just don't add to much colour. For the Tongan tapa art you had to explore Tongan pattern and the get a 20x20 brown piece of paper and fold it into quarters. Then with your vivid you draw a Tongan pattern in each square put newspaper under it so that the vivid doesn't leak through the paper and onto the table. I didn't do any because I had to do my mono print.

Saturday Netball

Last Saturday the Seniors had a Netball game. It was very fun but also tiring too . There were two teams. The teams were called Stars and Magic. So in the teams there were year 5's and year 6's. In the Stars team there was mostly Year 6's and in the Magic team there were mostly years  5's and a few year 6's. Last Saturday my team (Magic) played against Halsey Drive. It was a good game, even though we didn't win I still enjoyed it. My Dad and brother came to the game, my Mum couldn't come because she had to work and my Sister didn't come because it was to windy, my Aunty's and Uncles and my cousin also came to my game.  After the game we got lollies and my brother also got some too. The lollies were delicious.

Matariki

On Thursday the 23rd of July, we had a Matariki Celebration in our classrooms. We celebrated by doing rotations and learning about Matariki. In the first rotation we got to make kites. It was fun making the kites. Then in the second rotation we were making Maori bread, it is also called fried bread. It was very delicious and also fun and easy to make, We used Self - Raising Flour and water. and then fried and and I ate it with Golden syrup. Everybody else ate it with butter and maybe Jam, Hazelnut butter or The Golden Syrup, I ate it without the butter because I'm allergic to butter, It was still really delicious. In the third rotation we had to make a Stop Motion video about Matariki and how it got there.It was fun making the stop motions because we got to use clay and play - doh to make different characters and other objects for our stop motion videos. Cross Country

On Thursday the 2nd of July in school we had a Cross Country. It was really fun. We had to do activities and there were different stations to do the activities. There was this one station where we could relax and play on the playground and also play with other stuff like giant chess and checkers. Now I am going to tell  you what the activities were called Tennis, Handball and a blindfolded game then there was the run it was really tiring. The activities were really fun. On the run we had to do 2 laps across the whole field and then behind some stuff and then you'll hear people cheering you on and then you have to do it one more time and then if your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th you would get a card that will say what place you came in, only 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th would get a card. Something that I didn't like about the Cross Country is that  I got really tired and the run was also very tiring. Something I liked about the Cross Country is that my family got to watch me do the activities and the Cross Country and also I got to do it with my friends.
